Knowledge of any sort assists in shaping up the personality of every individual and encourages him to face the world with inner confidence. Therefore the habit and tendency of reading books should be polished during the early age. Children normally display a tendency of restlessness and lack of concentration due to which the decision of the choice of books is very critical. Kids should be acquainted with reading by making them realize that reading is fun. This can be achieved by providing them exciting and entertaining books that match their interests such as the adventures of huckleberry finn.
Finding such books isn’t a difficult task as a variety of children books have been made for the purpose of early learning. The content of the book alone is not the only requirement for making reading for kids an enjoyable experience, the teacher or the parent should inflict the content of the book in a way that the child is attracted to reading the content himself. Furthermore picture books are the best way of capturing the child’s interest for reading. This is because anything dull, boring or serious would fail to attain the child’s reaction; he has much more interesting toys available around for that purpose! Picture books trigger the wild imagination of children and encourage them to exaggerate their thinking regarding the picture or story. This is what most kids love to do-story telling. The fantasy world stories in children books help satisfy their never ending curiosity and allow them to stay within the boundaries of their fantasy world. The content of these books is not limited to children stories; learning material is also incorporated in these books in an interesting way.
The story books that have been attracting children since ages include the Snow White, Cinderella etc. But these are targeted to children who are usually above 5 years of age. Stories relating to animals, fancy characters from nursery rhymes, shapes, alphabets are the ones that serve the purpose of early learning. Early learning not only serves to enhance vocabulary but also builds expression in children-expression of reading and explaining things.
Early learning skills are the building blocks required for gaining the vast array of knowledge the child will be exposed to in the future. Furthermore children stories are mostly moralistic and they leave an impact on the child’s brain that stays with him even when he grows up. The child associates real life situations with the story and the characters and this is a process of healthy child growth and learning. The learning process is very complicated and a child’s mind is even more in-comprehendible. Therefore it is hard for us to acknowledge the extent these books can impact a child’s mind and learning process.
