Getting Ready to Go to Nursing School
Everyone thinks that nursing is a recession proof profession. However, this latest economic downturn shows that it’s not true. Some hospitals and programs have cut how many new nurses are being accepted. But, even with this, Nursing in a Down Economy is still a rewarding job. There are still hospitals and programs that are taking in new people looking to be nurses, and nurses fresh from nursing school. So, be prepared to possibly work a little harder to get in where you want to.
Before you start getting ready to apply to a nursing program, the biggest thing you need to figure out is Is Nursing Right for You? Nursing is a very rewarding career, but it can be difficult. There are long hours, and heart breaking stories and cases, depending on which specialty you are looking to get in to. Even with these things, it is still a good profession to be in.
If you want to be a nurse, you will have to start Preparing for Nursing School. What do you need to do to get ready? If you are still in high school you need to talk to a guidance counselor who can help you research different schools and their nursing programs. Once you have decided which school or schools that you are interested in, you will need to find out their requirements. Some programs require that you take certain classes and subjects to be ready for the program. Nursing programs will look to see if you have taken 4 years of English, math and science, at least 2 years of health studies, and it’s a plus if you have some language courses and computer courses under your belt as well. If nursing is really something that you want to do, you should start early to make sure that you have the right classes done.
If you haven’t taken these classes, decide at the last minute that you want to become a nurse, or are out of high school, there are still things to do so that you are Preparing for Nursing School. Start volunteering at hospitals, so you can see what nursing entails. You can start college at the school that you want, take remedial courses so that you meet requirements, and continue to apply to the nursing program of your choice. It may be difficult to get into the program of your dreams, but if nursing is your passion, it’s worth it.
