What is the Acai Berry
The Acai Berry is a small round fruit that is smaller than a grape but about the same in appearance. This fruit comes from the acai palm which is a tree that grows too about 15 to 30 meters. The acai palm grows in eight different species and is native to Central and South America. Acai Palms are tall and slender and grow mainly in the swamps as well as the flood lands. The pinnate leaves of the acai palm can grow to be up to three meters long.
The Acai Berry is harvested for food and according to a study of three traditional Cabolco populations of the Brazilian Amazon the acai is perhaps the most important plant because its fruit makes up up to 42% of their total food intake. The Acai Berry is served and consumed in a variety of ways including with tapioca, salty, sweet and mixed with granola. Acai is widely consumed in Brazil as an ice cream flavor and also a juice. There is even an acai flavored liqueur.
The Acai Berry has recently been advertised as a dietary supplement. Marketers of these supplements make claims that users of acai will experience increased energy, improved libido, improved operation of the digestive system, improved appearance of the skin and reduced cholesterol levels, just to name a few. The problem of obesity in America has reached almost epidemic proportions so the “discovery” of quick weight loss is becoming more and more popular. It seems like with every turn of the television channels there is a new promise of salvation from growing belts everywhere.
As of March 2009 there has not been any scientific proof to the claims of the weight loss capabilities of the Acai Berry. There are claims all of the Internet that this fruit is the God send of the universe. The weight loss products of the Acai Berry have not yet been evaluated by the FDA. These weight loss products are available in many different ways including tablets, juices, instant drink powders as well as yogurts and smoothies.
Just like any other weight loss method or product, the success of the usage of the Acai Berry depends on following a reasonable diet and a regular regiment of exercise.
